If I Were To Choose

If I were to chose . . .

I would choose the Filarmonica 13 Doble Temple square point . . .

Straight Razor Design's 3-in. English Bridal Strop . . .

Heinrich L. Thater's 24 mm. silver tip brush . . .

Geo F. Trumper's rose shave cream . . .

John Allen's Slick Water pre-shave . . .

Straight Razor Design's mother earth lather bowl . . .

Sitting atop the classic-style pewter shave mug filled with hot water . . .

A healthy sweep of alum  block . . .

A refreshing splash of cold water . . .

Spiked with the brush of an ice cube . . .

Followed by a modest touch of Trumper's Coral Skin Food . . .

And a gentle slap of Trumper's Spanish Leather aftershave . . .

Ah, but it's only 3 a.m., with 3:45 hours to go . . .

Hello, Mr Yadgar,

I love reading your thoughts on literature and shaving history. I have a quick question - do you know anyone in the Milwaukee area that hones straight razors? I know that I'm supposed to buy one that is shave ready, but I found one at such a great deal I simply could not pass it up - the money spent to have it honed would still make it a "steal". Any thoughts you give would be much appreciated :)

David

Hello, David:

Thank you for your note, and I apologize for my delayed response. It's a long story.

I know of no one who hones razor professionally in the Milwaukee area. All of my razors are honed by Lynn Abrams, probably the foremost authority on straight razors and straight razor shaving. Lynn also is proprietor of Straight Razor Designs (straightrazordesign.com). Send it to him and tell him I sent you.

Regards,

Obie Yadgar
